Winterton Bonfire 2016
Saturday the 5th of November 2016
The annual bonfire and firework display took place on November 5th 2016 at the show field. The event was organised by Mr Ken Cross and his bonfire committee as part of the extended agricultural show team. Last year the evening was mild and clear which made for an enjoyable night for the whole family. As the gates opened at 5pm, and the crowds began to enter the show field, the atmosphere was electric. The huge funfair with rides and games for all ages entertained the growing numbers whilst the many catering establishments kept everyone content with hot food and drinks.
At 7pm the crowds filled the viewing paddocks and the event was officially opened by the local vicar Alice Nunn. After which 50000 Chinese firecrackers were lit – an explosion which definitely declared the event open. To the cheer of the gathering crowd, Alice then lit the bonfire. Throughout the evening there were two amazing firework displays which were skilfully put together by “Wizard Fireworks;” a Kent based pyrotechnics firm who have worked with the show for many years. The outstanding displays, with in excess of £5000 of fireworks, kept the crowds entertained throughout the evening and the cheers, whoops and applause showed their full appreciation. Following a successful and safe event we look forward to bonfire night 2017; for which plans are already well under way.
